Darwin Song Project (2009)
In March 2009, Chris Wood, Karine Polwart, Jez Lowe, Mark Erelli, Emily Smith, Rachael McShane, Krista Detor and Stu Hanna gathered together for
week in a farmhouse in rural Shropshire, UK. They were tasked with creating new songs with a resonance and relevance to Charles Darwin to commemorate his 200th birthday (and the sesquicentennial of the publishing of "The Origin Of Species"). The artists performed 17 newly written songs to a sold out audience at the Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury, sharing lead vocals and instrumental duties. This live recording features the inaugural performances of Erelli's "Kingdom Come" (co-written with Stu Hanna & Rachael McShane) and "Mother of Mysteries" (co-written with Karine Polwart). Erelli contributes vocals, acoustic and tenor guitars, as well as mandolin accompaniment.
